Uranium Industry Issues in Québec

Québec City, July 28, 2014 – The inquiry commission of the Bureau d’audiences publiques sur l’environnement (BAPE), chaired by Louis-Gilles Francoeur, supported by commissioners Michèle Goyer and Joseph Zayed, will begin its second phase, question and information, of the public hearing on uranium industry issues in Québec on September 3, 2014. This phase will allow the commission and the participants to deepen their knowledge of the issues concerning the uranium industry in Québec, with the help of specialists and resource persons.

The commission wants to orientate its work to certain themes. Each session will start with one or many presentations and will be followed by a questions period, depending on the theme of the session. The goal is to transmit and to vulgarize the information, in order to help citizens to better understand all the available documentation of this mandate.

The public sessions will start on September 3, 2014, in Mistissini. In the first week, two video conference rooms, one in Chisasibi and the other in Chibougamau, will permit to citizens of those two cities to interact directly with the commission during these sessions. The commission will then hold sessions in Québec City until September 25, when it will go to Kangisqsualujjuaq for its last two sessions. The sessions will take place at the following locations :
